Do you long for the ease and simplicity of yesterday? Are you searching for happiness? If you answered yes to these questions, then you are not alone. The pace of the world today, the hype in the marketplace, the insincerity of the people, the media being swayed by the almighty dollar, the chemicals and preservatives in our foods, the entertainment being so filthy that it’s not fit for our children, let alone for us to watch, the failure of the organizations that were put in place to protect the people, the words “In God We Trust“ being too radical for our country to use anymore…..it's sometimes all just too much to handle! Often, we don't know where to go or where to turn for help.
For me, it got to be just a bit TOO much. It seems that the entire world has gone crazy. What happened to the good ‘ol days when people sipped lemonade sitting on their porch on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Now it’s not even safe to use the lemons to make the lemonade because of all of the pesticides and herbicides being used. What happened to the kids who played outside and rode their bikes down the street while dinging the bell? Now they are all too busy playing video games and finding new music for their mp3 players. Could it be that our children are also searching for happiness?
What happened to laughing at good, wholesome comedy sitcoms like “I Love Lucy,” and watching movies that made you cry like “Old Yeller.” What happened to the really good quality movies like the Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis ones, or the Abbott and Costello movies? Have you searched through the channels lately that your kids are watching? It’s really quite rare to even find decent cartoons anymore. It was the highlight of my Saturday morning when I was a kid, to sit down with my dad and watch Bugs Bunny and Road Runner. I loved Tom and Jerry too. Where did all of the real entertainment go? Why did all of this shallow, immoral muck take it’s place? It’s not bad enough that the programming is so immoral and un-watchable, but have you checked out the comercials lately? It seems that all they have to offer is fast food (foodless food), prescription medications with a side effects list that would make our great grandparents roll over in their graves, and junk toys with lead paint from China that are marketed to a population of kids who are too busy to play with them due to their preoccupation with electronics! Kids who are searching for happiness in a world of electronic brain-foggers!
Every once in a while, someone will send me an email that has a lot of pictures, slogans, fashions, music, etc. that are a real “blast from the past.” Each time I look at one of those, I get that “warm and fuzzy” feeling inside. You know, that feeling that makes you want to go home again. The sad part is that we can never go home. The world is what it is, and it has come too far to ever go back to the way it used to be. However, there is a paradigm shift taking place. It seems that with the economy failing, the gas prices rising, the job market shrinking, food prices skyrocketing, people are starting to do a lot of things like they did in the old days. They are spending more time at home. They are starting to realize that “Hey, maybe there are more important things in life than keeping up with the Jones’,” Family, neighbors and a sense of community seem to be something that seems to have increased in value again. People are beginning to realize that time really is of the essence and that it truly is our most valuable commodity. Instead of spending it on the things that don’t really matter, instead of searching for happiness, they are starting to re-think some of the old ways and old values. Perhaps this “hurry up” life style isn’t really all it’s cracked up to be. It just makes people tired and old before their time.
They are beginning to realize that "perhaps we create our own happiness" by the choices we make.
What is the one thing that people are really searching for? What are compulsive shoppers really looking for? How about alcoholics and drug addicts? How about sexually promiscuous people? How about the obsessive compulsive group? What do they all have in common? They are all searching for happiness that has somehow escaped them.
Okay, now let’s talk about what makes people happy. For most people, having time to rest, relax and escape the daily rat-race is a good way to start. How about having enough money to feel secure in your future? What about finding easier ways to do things that are too hard and demanding? What about having people who care? What about having people who love you? How about breaking through the barrier of hype and commercialism to find out the real things that are important in life? These are the things that make most people truly happy. Most people are simply scared. They are afraid that if they slow down, let their guard down, and try to change anything, that it will be too difficult. Often, they simply don’t know what to do, or even where to start.
Why are we all searching for happiness that we never seem to find?
Remember the days when products were manufactured with pride, right here in the good old U.S. of A? Remember when the manufactuers advertised their good quality products with the intent of actually helping people to solve their problems? I love the old commercials and magazine ads. The same media used now days just seems to have competitors seeing who can scream “Buy Me!” the loudest, without any real regard for quality or value and benefit to the consumer!
That is what this web site is dedicated to. It is about “Home, Health, Happiness & Humanity.” I mean, when you get right down to it, what else is there? Perhaps we are searching for happiness in the wrong place? Perhaps happiness doesn't come from toys, electronics, big houses or cars. Perhaps it is something that is created from within and then is manifested through our thought processes. This site is about helping you to remember and helping you to find the things that are true, real, and important in all areas of your life. Home, family, business, friendships, etc. If you take a look at some of the things of the past, and then look at the way things are now, you can often see why there are so many dissatisfied, unhappy and depressed people in the world today. They are longing for goodness, value and something to believe in. I believe that you will find many tools to help you remember what is truly important, but not only that, you will find a lot of really useful information that I feel will be of great value to you. I would love to hear your comments, so please feel free to email me at comments@inspirationsofthepast.com. |
